报告内容：Synthetic materials are generally very simple, comprising a limited number of constituents. In contrast, complexity is a hallmark of biological materials, which translates into exquisite functional behaviour. This provides the inspiration for constructing synthetic materials using a plurality of components. In my talk I will outline how this can be accomplished in multicomponent metal-organic frameworks (MMOFs), a class of porous materials. We overturned conventional wisdom in the field to show that the design and synthesis of MMOFs with three distinct organic components is possible and that they have remarkable properties. I will focus on catalysis, and will show how the spatial microenvironment around an active site can be tuned by installing functional groups on the surrounding linkers. Systematic engineering of the pore structure in this way impacts on the catalytic properties.
报告人简介：Shane Telfer is a Professor of Chemistry at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand. He was born in the town of Clyde in Central Otago, New Zealand. He completed a BSc(Hons) and a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, which was followed by a post-doctoral odyssey that included stops in Geneva, Tokyo and Montreal. His research interests extend to all aspects of supramolecular chemistry and functional materials involving transition metals, especially those that are porous, chiral and catalytic. Since 2007, he has been a Principal Investigator for the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. In 2012, he was a Fulbright Fellow at UC Berkeley, USA. In 2015, he was awarded the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry Prize for Excellence in Chemical Research. He is an elected member of the IZA Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) commission, and in 2018, he will chair MOF2018, the sixth International Conference on Metal-Organic Frameworks.
